Antarctica is an island at the bottom of the Earth. It is 13,829,430 km squared, that is 58 times the size of the United Kingdom. Only 0.38% (44,890 km squared) of Antarctica is ice-free. Temperature The largest ice shelve is about the size of France. The lowest temperature recorded on Earth happens to be in Antarctica at the aerial photograph of Vostok station. The lowest natural temperature ever directly recorded at ground level on Earth is −89.2 °C (−128.6 °F), which was on July 21, 1983. |
